watermelon lemonade

Updated: Jul 4, 2019

This hot and humid weather has me craving all the cold and refreshing drinks. I absolutely love homemade lemonade, and the other day while eating some juicy watermelon, I put two and two together and decided to blend up some watermelon lemonade. This recipe is super easy to make with just 3 ingredients, doesn't require an oven (!!), and is sure to be a refreshing treat on a hot summer day.

Ingredients

- 8 cups watermelon (about 1/4 of a large watermelon)

- 1 cup lemon juice (juice from about 6 medium sized lemons)

- 2 tbsp. agave nectar (or honey)

How to make it

- cut watermelon up into cubes

- blend 8 cups of watermelon until smooth

- add 1 cup of lemon juice to blended watermelon and blend until well combined

- add 2 tbsp of agave nectar or honey to juice and once again blend until well combined

For next time...

My mom suggested adding lemon zest to enhance the lemon flavor. We both LOVE lemon, so this sounds like a great idea to me. But if you're looking for more of the watermelon-y flavor, you could leave out the lemon zest. This recipe is pretty fool proof, so I wouldn't really change anything. Also, you can taste test throughout the blending process to see if and what you want to add.

Variations

There are a lot of fun ways to spruce up this lemonade. Next time I might try watermelon limeade, or just add a bit of lime juice to this recipe. If you like a citrusy drink that is sure to make your lips pucker, you could leave out the agave or other sweetener.

All in all

This lemonade is so refreshing, and it's approved by my mom (huge plus). It's an easy treat to whip up for your 4th of July BBQ's or other summer get-togethers. And for all of the adults out there, this watermelon lemonade could be a delicious addition to a cocktail! Happy 4th of July, friends. Enjoy!
